AI visibility

When your customers ask AI, does your business show up?

Jelena 5 min read

A couple of years ago, a customer would open Google, type "plumber near me" and scroll through the results. Now more and more people do something else: they ask an AI directly — ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google's own AI answer — "who could fix a water leak in my area?" and get a ready-made recommendation. If your business isn't in that answer, the customer never knows you exist.

This isn't the future. It's already happening, every single day.

Why this is different from a Google search

In traditional search you see ten blue links and choose for yourself. AI makes the choice for you: it surfaces one or two businesses and leaves the rest unmentioned. You're no longer the tenth result — you're either in the answer or you're not.

And unlike Google Ads, you can't simply pay your way in. AI builds its answer from what it can find about you online: the content on your site, your Google profile, your reviews, and how consistently your details line up across the web.

You're no longer the tenth result. You're either in the answer or you're not.

Three things that decide whether AI finds you

Good news: AI visibility isn't magic. It's built on the same fundamentals that make your business look credible online anyway. These three matter most:

How do you know if you're showing up right now?

The easiest way is to ask yourself. Open ChatGPT or Perplexity and ask exactly what your customer would ask: "Recommend a [your trade] in [your town]." See whether you get mentioned. Try a few different phrasings. If your competitors come up and you don't, you know where you stand.

This simple test tells you more than many paid reports — and you can do it in five minutes.

In short

AI is the new front page. Your customer no longer browses ten options; they trust the one recommendation the machine hands them. Make sure that recommendation is you: keep your site clear, your details consistent and your presence fresh.
